Migration, Upgrade, Enhancement.. All words that to an IS team mean
headache, loss of sleep, long hours and gray hair. Not something
that normal IS professionals look forward to but realize is a large
part of the job of providing a reliable information infrastructure.
In 1998 Mapsco, Inc. recognized our Point of Sale system was out
of compliance with the recognized date criteria surrounding Y2K
bug both hardware and software. We made an attempt to upgrade our
current DOS based POS software to a new state of the are 32-bit
version by our then current point of sale manufacturer. This proved
a failed effort that wasted a lot of time and money. The manufacturer
has since pulled their product from the market. That left us in
a very uncomfortable position: POS out of compliance and no solution
in sight.
We formed a team to find our next POS that consisted of retail management,
customer service representatives and myself to conduct a nationwide
search for a possible solution. We interviewed several compaines...some
whose product was a "more mature" product, some who had hundreds
of installations and large client base to promote. But one thing
that Mik & Associates offered kept me coming back to them. Their
vast experience in the field of custom development. I knew that
our installation would not be a simple as opening up a box and loading
some software on a PC. It would require customization, onsite support,
and quick turn around time on changes to the software functionality.
I felt that the only way to accomplish this would be to hire a company
that would meet our customizing needs.
I wish I could say we had no problems, there are always problems,
but the key to a successful installation is to discover the problem
and fix it. The development and support staff at MIK, are the absolute
best I've worked with in 15 years of IS support and management.
No matter how small or large the problem was even if the problem
was external of MIK they rolled up their sleeves and got to work
and provided me a solution.
So, if you find yourself in need of a software solutions provider with solid Q & A and support I recommend the talents of Mik & Associates.
Sincerely,
