"In June of 1999 we had began installing a Y2K upgrade to our point-of-sale system, but quickly ran into a wall of register lockups and a lack of functionality relative to the old system. Fearing we would be faced with a complete overhaul of our Platinum accounting system, we made several phone calls to see if we had a point-of-sale alternative. The feedback was unanimous - we need to talk with Mik & Associates. Mik's current point-of-sale system (POS 2000) was primarily tied to Platinum for Windows but, in desperate need for help, I talked to Mik to see what they could do.

We had gotten comfortable with our old point-of-sale system and when comparing it to Mik's product found that POS 2000 had a very impressive user interface, but did not have some of the features we had grown accustomed to. With most software solutions that would have been a serious hurdle to overcome, and we simply would need to make do with what we could get. With Mik & Associates, however, we found that we didn't have to 'just settle' for something less.

Over the next three weeks, we outlined for Mik everything that our current POS system did. I told them, "It sure would be nice if users could edit the product description" and "our users are accustomed to entering this code at the point of sale," and "can't we do sales reporting during the day, regardless of whether or not we've closed the registers." Normally I wouldn't expect to pick & choose what to include in a system; however, Mik literally rewrote their software package and added features based on our recommendations. This convinced us that Mik understood Bob Timberlake Inc., and we had a solution's provider. What started out as version #1 of POS 200 was at version #2 by the time we finished talking, and we had functionality with Platinum for DOS. What began as a good system that we could work with, ended as a great system that we could convert to with a friendly user interface that required a minimum of training.

With the passing of Y2K, we can now do the same things now that we did a year ago - albeit, better. We can reprint receipts, run register reports during the day, customize tender types, accept payments on account, and the list goes on. We didn't have to adjust to a foreign way of selling product, Mik adjusted their software to meet our needs. It's nice to have your cake and eat it too, and we want to thank Mik & Associates for providing the right solution for our point-of-sale needs."
